[CSAA]CSAAConference探尋之旅,July10-11,Hobart,Tasmania-Deadlineextension in accordance with contemporary conference practice, we are pleased to be able to offer an extension to the deadline for abstracts for the 2013 Biennial CSAA conference in Hobart, Tasmania. We welcome abstracts to be submitted up to April 26. The conference will feature keynote addresses by Professor Gloria Davies, author of the acclaimed "Worrying About China" (Harvard UP, 2007) and an extraordinary new book coming out this year "Lu Xun's Revolution: Writing in a Time of Violence" (Harvard UP 2013), and Professor Kerry Brown, Director of the China Studies Centre at the University of Sydney and an internationally-renowned observer of contemporary China's politics and economy. For the conference, the CSAA has also partnered with MONA: The Museum of Old and New Art, the celebrated multimillion dollar art gallery on the banks of the Derwent River. Delegates arriving in Hobart on July 9 in readiness for the opening of the conference, are invited late that afternoon to a private viewing of the gallery, a welcoming drinks reception, and a screening in MONA's cinema of the new documentary film "The Raw and the Cooked", by German filmmaker Monika Treut, about cooking and the politics of food in Taiwan. The Premier of Tasmania, Lara Giddings, will also be joining us at the reception. A review of MONA is here: http://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/Nudity-Art-Sex-and-Death-Tasmania-Awaits-You.html A trailer for The Raw and the Cooked is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p51AN21ZYk0 The theme of the conference is 探尋之旅, which we translate simply as “Journeys”. The phrase intends to capture conceptual links between Tasmania as a place for scholars to come and evocative ways of thinking about China. We invite participants to reflect upon journeys across territory and through time that have been undertaken by people, objects, ideas and words in the Chinese world, and the transformation that those things have undergone. As in previous meetings of the CSAA, we encourage contributions from all disciplines and points of view, either as individual papers or in coherent panels. We welcome innovative concepts for panels, including themes and texts presented in dialogue with each other or contrasting readings of common material by panel members. The venue for the conference is The Old Woolstore hotel, a short walk from Hobart's historic waterfront and attractions such as the Salamanca market. The Old Woolstore are offering very reasonably-priced accommodation for the CSAA at $139 per night, which includes internet access for the duration of the conference, and their professional conference services are sure to make this a memorable CSAA conference for all participants.
